Սեբեր. յետին են աստուածունի «աստուածային» ևնևր հաւ. 315. աստուածարել, աստուածա-րեալ ևն՝ ար մասնիկով. հմմտ. մեծ-ար-ել, հրաժ-ար-իլ։-Մեր քերականութիւնները սո-վորեցնում են թէ Աստուած բառը նշանակե-բով «ճշմարիտ Աստուածը», հոլովւում է Աս-տուծոյ, յԱստուծոյ, Աստուծով, իսկ «չաս. ռուած» նշանակութեամբ հոլովւում է աո-տուածոյ, աստուածոց, աստուածով ևն (տե՛ս Բագրատունի, Քերակ. զարգաց. էջ 24), բայց այս կանոնը սխալ է։ Ստոյգն այն է, որ ա-ռաջին նշանակութեամբ բառս երբեք ամ. բողջովին չէ գրուած մեր ձեռագրերի մէջ, այլ միշտ պատուվ՝ Ած, Այ, յԱյ, Ավ։ Օրինակի համար կրկնագիր Ագաթանգեղոսի մէջ ած, ოծն. ιծ, զածս պատահում է 10 անգամ, իսկ բարդութեանց մէջ 20 անգամ և միշտ գրուած է ած. սեռական այ՝ 20 անգամ. բա-ցառական յայ՝ 3 անգամ. ընդամէնը 53 ան-գամ և միշտ պատուով (տե՛ս իմ յօդուածը ՀԱ 1913, էջ 4)։ Այսպիսի համառօտագրու-թիւններով ի հարկէ կարելի չէ իմանալ բառի ճիշտ ընթերցումը. բայց կարելի էլ չէ առանց պատճառի պնդել թէ հին հնչումն էր Աստու-ծոյ։ Ընդհակառակը՝ յոգնակի հոլովները, չաստուածոյ սեռականը, անաստուած, ան-աստուածի, անաստուածիւ ձևերը և հայերէ-նի ընդհանուր ձայնափոխութեան օրէնքները ցոյց են տալիս թէ հին հայերէնի մէջ աստու-ծոյ ձևով մի բառ չէր կարող գոյութիւն ունե-նալ և թէ աստուած՝ ամէն նշանակութեամբ էլ հոլովւում էր աստուածոյ, աստուածով ևն. Մեր ձեռագրերում կան արդէն մի քանի դէպ-քեր, որոնք վերի կանոնին հակառակ են. այս-պէս՝ էջմիածնի Կարինեան թ. 526 ձեռագրի (ՋՉ=1457 թուից) մագաղաթեայ պահպա-նաևում գտնում ենք աստուծոյն ամբողջա-կան գրութիւնը (Գրծ. ե. 43, որ տպագրում աստուածոյն է. Մ. վրդ. Մաքսուդեանց ՀԱ 1913, 312). կրկնագիր Ագաթանգեղոսում՝ էջ 52բ գրուած է աստուծոց և 30 ա աստու-ծոցն (Աճառ. ՀԱ 1913, էջ 4). բայց երեք պա-րագային էլ խօսքը չաստուածների վրայ է և հետևաբար՝ ըստ ենթադրեալ կանոնի՝ պիտի լինէր աստուածոյ, աստուածոց։-Աստուծոյ, ձևը միջին հայերէն է, որ կանոնասորապէս յառաջացած է հնագոյն *աստուածոյ սեռա-կանից, միջին ա-ի անկման օրէնքը հաստա-տուելուց յետոյ. *աստուածոյ ձևը տառացի գրուած չլինելով անհետացել է և ժողովրդա-իսկ հնագոյն բնագրերի մէջ։ (Այս գաղափա-րը յայտնած և պաշտպանած է Meillet. վեր-ջին անգամ տե՛ս իր Altarmenisches Fle-mentarbuch1913, էջ 20. Հիւբշման ևս համա-ձայն է նրան (անձնական). միայն Pedersen ծում է թէ աստուծոյ հին հայերէնի յատուկ մի ձև է և յառաջացած է երաժշտական շեշ-տի պատճառով *աստուածոյ նախաձևից։ Բայց այս պարագային ինչո՛ւ «չաստուած» նշանակութեամբ մնաց աստուածոյ։
