Եփր. աւետ. 305 (առնուած է Եզեկ. ժզ. 10 համարից, որ մեր թարգմա-նութեան մէջ այսպէս է. Ագուցի քեզ զերկ-նագոյնն. =յն. ὸάϰινϑον «յակինթ»)։-Որովհետև գործածուած է կարմիր և կապոյտ բառերի հետ, ուստի և գոյնի անուն է, և յատկապէս կարմրից ու կապոյտից տարբեր մի գոյն։ Եւ որովհետև յունարէնում համա-պատասխան ձևն է միշտ «յակնթագոյն», որ և վերջին օրինակում թարգմանուած է նաև երկնագոյն, ուստի պէտք է ընդունիլ, թէ հիր նշանակում է «յակնթագոյն, որ է երկնա-գոյն կապուտակ»։ Հնագոյն հայերէնում զա-նազանում էին ուրեմն կապոյտի երկու որոշ տեսակները, այն է՝ կապոյտ «cинiи, լեղա-կի գոյն», հիր «րοлуσoй, երկնագոյն»։
• Նչեցին մեկնում է բառս «պարգև կամ գոյն կարմիր». Ստեփ. լեհ. իբրև արմատ հիրիկ բառի՝ մեկնում է «ծա-ղիկ նման մանուշակի և զգեստ նոյն-պիսի գունով»։ Սրանց համեմատ ՆՀԲ «հանդերձ ծիրանի կամ պարգև յազնիւ և ի գունազարդ զգեստուց», Ջի «հան դերձ ի գոյն յակնթի կամ մանուշակա-գոյն», ԱԲ «խիլայ, պարգև, ծիրանե-գոյն լաթ», Քաջունի viola tricolor և ծաղիկը (տե՛ս Տիրացուեան, Contributo § 143)։-ՀՀԲ նոյն ընդ հիրիկ։ ՆՀԲ որպէս ծիր կամ ձիր... Թո՛ղ զի յն. εἰροῦ է ասր և εἰρω «մանել»։-Lag. Arm. Stud. § 1291 կցում է հիրիկ բառին, որ տե՛ս Müller WZKM 8, 282 փոխառեալ յն. ἰρις բառից։ Canini, Et. étym. 124 հիր դնելով «pourpre, ծիրանեգոյն» կը-ցում է սանս. hari «կանաչ, դեղին» բա-գին,
